L’European Cup de Malcesine 2022 a été comme chaque année un vrai plaisir pour les participants. Cela a commencé pour nous avec un départ de Lausanne à 7h le mercredi matin. 2 heures plus tard, nous prenons déjà notre premier café en Italie et on se sent en vacances. La route se passe sans encombre et comme d’habitude nous sommes bien accueillis à la Fraglia Vela Malcesine par tout le personnel. Le grutier est sympa, souriant et efficace et vers 18h, le bateau est à l’eau, l’équipage enregistré et pesé (petit moment de stress !) et nous pouvons prendre notre premier Spritz.

With the SVT Esseboats Cup Thalwil Cup, a new regatta format for Esse sailboats was tried out for the first time. The regatta event was held from 8 to 10 July on Lake Zurich at SVT Thalwil. The special thing about it was that every type of Esseboat could take part - and all types were there, from 750s, 850s and 990s to Esse 300s.

This years Esse850 Swiss Championship was organized by the Segel-Club Enge in Bächau. A beautiful place, a great organization with nice people, good food and a very competent race comittee. The weather was sunny and warm, but the wind was light and unstable. We could still sail 7 fair runs, while most other regatas in Switzerland had either less or no runs during this week-end.

The sailing season should start soon and it is time to plan it. The 2020 season is one to forget, but we can hope that the 2021 season will be nearly back to normal given that for the Esse, many events will take place in July or later. About The Class

The «Esse 850 International Class» is the official class-unification of the Esse 850 One-Design yachts and was founded in January 2007 at Schloss Rapperswil. Its task is to enable international regattas, stimulate communication among the sailors of the Esse 850 and promote and coordinate all activities in Switzerland and internationally.

In 2010, the Swiss Esse 850 Class was accommodated to «Swiss Sailing» as a Member Class and has been authorized to perform official Swiss Championships. The class association currently counts 50 members who actively participate in regattas.
