The well-deserved holiday season lies ahead. Time to celebrate a beautiful year of Esse-sailing, but even more to start planning for the next season. After a successful implementation of the new calculation formula for the event series of the Gentlemen's Class past year, the Esse 850 IC Cup 2019 awaits with another 17 exciting events split into 3 grades and a slight enhancement of the formula. We wish all sailors merry Christmas, a happy new year and are very much looking forward to seeing you all back out on the water next spring!

In the beginning of this year's season, a new formula for the calculation of the Esse 850 IC Cup total ranking was introduced and implemented. The idea was to strengthen the regional fleets and therewith grow the activity within the class. Now, after the season has ended, it was time for the committee to review the effects. The evaluation showed a distinctive impact and resulted in minor improvements of the formula.

The new format of the Esse 850 IC Cup found it's first overall winner: the legendary team OttoCinqueDue of SUI 172! What seems to have been a walk in the park for the utmost experienced crew around Alain Marchand was actually quite a struggle, as the second placed team Goia of GER 041 and team B TOO of SUI 155 in third have put up an exciting fight right until the very last event. Bravo to the podium and all other competitors for a vibrant Esse 850 IC Cup 2018 (full results). The prizegiving ceremony will be celebrated at the next grade 1 event in Malcesine. Don't miss out!

About The Class

The «Esse 850 International Class» is the official class-unification of the Esse 850 One-Design yachts and was founded in January 2007 at Schloss Rapperswil. Its task is to enable international regattas, stimulate communication among the sailors of the Esse 850 and promote and coordinate all activities in Switzerland and internationally.

In 2010, the Swiss Esse 850 Class was accommodated to «Swiss Sailing» as a Member Class and has been authorized to perform official Swiss Championships. The class association currently counts 50 members who actively participate in regattas.
