The «Silverrudder™ – Challenge of the Sea» is an annual singlehanded, 134 nautical miles long boat race around the island of Funen, Denmark. With 300 participants overall, it is even the world’s largest non-stop, singlehanded off shore race. This year, the Silverrudder (category «Keelboat Small») was fortunately won by Franz Schollmayer on his Esse 850 «Firlefranz» with a record-breaking time of 20:23:14 hours. Congratulations!
Finally, here we are with the report about the German Open 2015. As stated already, the event came to an early end on Saturday due to the amount of races having been sailed. The final ranking was a little slow in coming but is now available as usual on our homepage. Sorry for the delay!
As predicted, sailing conditions were much better on day two of the German Open 2015. The wind was moderate and gusty in the morning but turned to a solid 10 knots of breeze as the day continued. Six races were sailed, which means that the event has already come to an early end. The SUI 072, team «Ottocinque» with Alain Marchand, expectedly claimed the victory. Detailed Results will follow tomorrow.
The misty morning was followed by a sunny first day at the Esse 850 German Open 2015. The fleet went out and the race committee did everything they could, but in the end, there was just not enough wind for racing today on Chiemsee. The next two days will again bring beautiful late summer weather and supposedly even 10 knots of northeasterly breeze on Saturday afternoon. We’ll hope the best and keep you up to date!
Even though the Oktoberfest is still two weeks away, the Esse 850-Fleet can look forward to some cordial Bavarian hospitality at the German Open 2015 from 11. – 13. of September anyway. Past year, the class was already welcomed with open arms in Germany, enjoyed three wonderful days in Diessen at Ammersee and caught a lot of sportive attention. This year’s host is the «Verein Seglerheim am (at) Chiemsee».

The «Esse 850 International Class» is the official class-unification of the Esse 850 One-Design yachts and was founded in January 2007 at Schloss Rapperswil. Its task is to enable international regattas, stimulate communication among the sailors of the Esse 850 and promote and coordinate all activities in Switzerland and internationally.
In 2010, the Swiss Esse 850 Class was accommodated to «Swiss Sailing» as a Member Class and has been authorized to perform official Swiss Championships. The class association currently counts 50 members who actively participate in regattas.
