Two races could be sailed on day 1 of the Esse 850 Mediterranean Cup 2016 in Lerici. As predicted, a southwesterly breeze tuned in with 9-12knts and made a nice first race possible in the afternoon. The breeze did not hold on too long which is why the second race of the day had to be abbreviated.

The first race brought some rather prominent sacrifices at the start already, for the SUI 172, team «Ottocinquedue» with Alain Marchand, and the SUI 156, team «North Sail» with Daniel Schroff were over the starting line too early and therefore now have to take into account an OCS. On the other hand, this cleared the way for the SUI 084, team «B-ESSE» with Fabian Bazzana and the SUI 157, «Esseboats Team» with Stefan Schuchter, to jump into the leading position of the preliminary ranking of the Mediterranean Cup 2016.

Tonight, all competitors are going to spend their official social event right next to the sailing club. It will be interesting to see who is going to come back strong tomorrow morning. Cheers!
