Mediterranean Cup – Final Countdown

The opening of the Esse 850 IC Cup 2016 is only one day away. Tomorrow, 12 teams from Switzerland, Italy and Germany will start the cup series at the Esse 850 Mediterranean Cup in Lerici (ITA).

Most teams arrived today, launched their yachts in the military harbour of La Spezia and took a one-hour boat cruise to the event venue in Lerici. One of the biggest challenges of the day turned out to be the exit of the harbour in La Spezia by boat. This exit was only possible while the harbour bridge was opened, once at 1pm and the second time at 5pm. Some Esse 850 teams missed the first slot by only few minutes and therefore had to wait until 5pm in order to get on their way to Lerici.

However, all teams are now in place and ready to focus on the substantial part of the regatta. The forecast promises light swell, 9-12knts of southwesterly breeze and cloudy skies. Follow the action on our Facebook-Site as well as on www.esse850.org!

About The Class

The «Esse 850 International Class» is the official class-unification of the Esse 850 One-Design yachts and was founded in January 2007 at Schloss Rapperswil. Its task is to enable international regattas, stimulate communication among the sailors of the Esse 850 and promote and coordinate all activities in Switzerland and internationally.

In 2010, the Swiss Esse 850 Class was accommodated to «Swiss Sailing» as a Member Class and has been authorized to perform official Swiss Championships. The class association currently counts 50 members who actively participate in regattas.
