Even though the Oktoberfest is still two weeks away, the Esse 850-Fleet can look forward to some cordial Bavarian hospitality at the German Open 2015 from 11. – 13. of September anyway. Past year, the class was already welcomed with open arms in Germany, enjoyed three wonderful days in Diessen at Ammersee and caught a lot of sportive attention. This year’s host is the «Verein Seglerheim am (at) Chiemsee».

All teams of the 2014 German Open-Podium will be part of the field again this time. Moreover, there are the teams ranked first and third in the current standings of the preliminary total ranking of the Esse 850 IC Cup 2015 to be found on the entry list. On the whole, 15 teams from Switzerland and Germany will be fighting for victory at the German Open 2015.

Despite the fleet not being too big, this upcoming weekend, some highly important points regarding the annual overall ranking will be at stake. Allow us to explain why the event could even bring a preliminary decision:

Concerning the total ranking of the Esse 850 IC Cup, the winner of any single event gets as many points as there are participants at this event. In the end, a team’s four best events (events with highest points) are being taken into account for the overall ranking.

This year’s Lausanne Cup had 12 teams participating. The «Ottocinque» (SUI 072 with Alain Marchand) won the event and therefore 12 points, team «Zebrabox» (SUI 158 with Paul-Ambroise Sevestre) came 2nd and won 11 points. An important victory that, however, gave the «Ottocinque» a lead of only one point over team «Zebrabox». Assuming that the «Ottocinque» now won the German Open (15 points because of 15 teams), the team could replace the 12 points of the Lausanne Cup with 15 points of the German Open for the total year ranking. On the other hand, team «Zebrabox» will presumably not compete at the German Open.

Considering the discard, the lead of the «Ottocinque» over team «Zebrabox» in the total ranking of the series would extend from 2 to 5 points. This would ultimately mean that team «Zebrabox» would need to distance themselves from the «Ottocinque» by five places in the ranking of the Swiss Championships in October in order to go for victory of the annual total ranking. An unbelievably difficult undertaking.

Long story short: The look-out for the German Open 2015 is both sportively and socially auspicious. As usual, we’ll be reporting daily on www.esse850.org.
